Lovely hotel - be mindful of location
I have just returned from Gara Suites with my husband and my two sons (ages 7 and 9). I read lots of reviews before we arrived ranging from excellent to awful so wanted to give an honest review of how we found it. All in all, we found the hotel to be very nice with a few things that could be improved (will detail later). We had a golf view room which had a large double bed in the bedroom and a large pull out sofa in the living room and the most beautiful view over the golf course and the sea. Both beds were extremely comfortable and sheets and pillows were spotlessly clean. The beds only had one pillow on each so I did have to request extras at reception but these were supplied within half an hour which was great. Having the pull out bed in the living room obviously meant we lost our sofa but we werent in the room very much and were happy to chill out on the bed when we were. The TV had lots of radio stations and tv channels (we mainly had on Disney and Paramount). My son worked out how to change the audio settings on the tv back to original audio, so any programmes that were originally in English we could watch in English which was great. When we arrived, we realised our patio door didnt lock. I raised this with reception in the morning and when we retuned shortly after it had been fixed which I was really pleased with! The fridge in the room, as others have pointed out wasnt the best. Again, I rasied this with reception who told me it was more of a mini bar than a fridge so it wasnt that cold. However, for the waters we kept in it it did the job. The bathroom was great size with a bath and a shower (some rooms only have a shower) with lots of hot water and a poweful shower. Towels were spotless and changed everyday. Breakfast in the morning was in the main restaurant and from 7:30 am to 10:30am. There was a huge array of choice from a full english, freshly made to order omlettes, pancakes and chocolate sauce, churros, all meats cheeses, hams and breads, cereals, pastries, donuts, salad, fruits, milkshakes, juices, fresh smoothies.....It was a really great selection and everything was really tasty. We ate breakfast quite late some days and they still kept bringing more food out so there was plenty left even if you arrive late. The hotel has two large pools and one toddler pool. The two pools are no deeper than 1.2m which was great for my boys as they could both stand up (one is a stronger swimmer than the other). There are loads of sunbeds, parasols and little tables (sunbeds are the comfiest ones I have come across). For those with kids, a lovely lady would come around asking if the kids wanted to to do any activities, crafts, archery, mini golf etc which was lovely. There was also a lovely guy who came around telling us about water aerobics, water vollyball etc which he would take. There are two pool bars - one in reception selling drinks and crisps and the main one outside, selling hot food, drinks, ice creams etc. Prices were ok - 2.50 euros for an ice cream, 6ish euros for a tuna toastie and chips. There were other items such as pizza, burgers, hotdogs etc. Now, for the things I would improve. The rooms do not have any kitchen facilities - there are no kettles or cups in the room. You can hire a kettle and 2 cups for around 20 euros I think (refundable). I do think tea and coffee making facilites should be standard in all rooms as I did miss this. There are two small glasses in the bathroom which we used but as there were 4 of us I do think they should of provided more. As for toiletries in the batroom, there was a showergel on the wall and two small soaps. All in all, we found this to be a very lovely hotel. Spotlessly clean, lovely food, great activities and helpful staff. There is also no shop on the complex. We wanted to but some infaltables for the boys - these had to be purchased in las americas and brought back. I did read that the hotel opposite (Green Garden) had a supermarket (5 min walk) but unfortantely this is being refurbished at the moment so was closed). For us, the location is the only reason that we would not return. The hotel is situated about a 10 minute drive from Las Americas. As we were bed and breakfast only we ate out at restaurants every night and this meant taxis there and back (apparently it is a 30 min walk and with 2 children and the hot temperature this wasnt an option for us). The taxis were around 8-9 euros a time so for us, the cost of taxis there and back every night was a lot and an added expense. But if you are looking for an all inclusive holiday and dont intend to leave the hotel much, this is a beautiful hotel. We did a few trips that I would recommend: Monkey Park - around 10mins in a taxi Aqualand - around 10mins in a taxi ( the boys did the doplhin experience which was magical) Restaurants I would recommed: Savage Fiore Biancco Pizzeria Trattoria (best lasagne ever)
Was ok …wouldn’t come back
Duplex suite with Golf Course View Good - hotel complex is beautiful, very big and clean , location is ok, turn left at front gate, take the shortcut and pretty much central - 1km Apartments are very big, very airy. Upstairs sun terrace. Nice views. Bar staff are good fun Pool entertainment each day - music Maids are very friendly and polite. Spa is excellent - staff are very friendly. €25 taxi from the Airport, Free Wi-Fi Taxi rank at hotel Beautiful views Nice golf course. Air con is decent Bad - upon arrival reception seemed annoyed because I was asked to sign something in Spanish re my passport and i asked what it said. This was a bad first impression for me. - I don’t speak Spanish. Arrived late, nothing nearby - £26.73 for a beer, coke and 2 cheese and ham toasties with fries at the poolside bar! - possibly charged twice but too late to rectify it once I noticed. Gym is basic / equipment dated or broken Hotel totally cashless. No mini bar Fridge doesn’t work very well - not cold No outside tables or chairs. Tried to use laundrette- was closed. Toiletries were two small soaps. Cleaning is mostly beds made and change of towels. Tables and surfaces were dirty when we arrived. No kitchen area/ utensils/ glasses/ cups. No local supermarket nearby - nearest is 1km away. No drying rack for clothes No option available for late check out - flight was 9pm Limited English tv channels, BBC news and MTV - the rest didn’t work. Check prices if paying for room separate. Booking.com sold the same room for €569 the day before we went. We paid €692.
Was amazing! Don’t let reviews scared you.
Ignore the bad review! Hotel is amazing, from the minute we checked in at 12pm they was kind enough to let us have the room early, the bar is cashless but not too expensive €5 for a cocktail. Pool is spotless and so are the sunbeds around it, rooms was spotless with clean towels and bedding daily, breakfast was great lots of choice and always hot food, lots of fresh smoothies and juices available. We paid for lunch as was b&b and had so many options, pizza, pasta, meats, carbs all fresh salad and veg couldn’t fault it. Snack bar has a basic menu but still cheap and quick. Entertainment was great in the day always water polo, darts, golf ext. Dont be scared by the bad reviews as it is a great hotel.
Would 100% go back on
Me and my boyfriend stayed here for a week and were very impressed , the breakfast was great such a big variety , rooms were cleaned very well everyday the pool area was spotless and big there is no way you would never get a sunbed! , they played chilled music throughout the day not to loud, a lovely man would come round and ask if we wanted to join in playing pool or darts ect and a lovely woman would come round and ask if we would like to join in water aerobics all staff were lovely so polite and would always say hello. Although the walk is around 20mins to the main area of restaurants and bars reception would ordered you a taxi and every time it would come within 2 minutes and cost varied from 5-10 euros, the pool bar was also great only 5 euros for a cocktail which was made into a slush which we loved , we will definitely be coming back here such good value for money !
Great 3*! Ignore the negative reviews!
My husband and I have just come back from Gara Suites and they were lovely. Hotel rooms were huge, big double bathroom, living area and separate bedroom. Pools were lovely, lots of sunbeds available. You can hire towels for €10 which is refundable. Safe was free in the room. Very safe, we left things out (Apple watch / iPhone) and the cleaner went in and nothing was touched. There is a small spa which was nice for an hour. We had massages which were very good. The staff were all lovely and cleaners, waiters etc all said hello. Reception could be a bit slow. They booked all our taxis and you are given a ticket to wait - never more than 5 mins. Food was good - varied choices, all fresh, sometimes a little limited but always hot and fresh and something to eat. Drinks were branded on the all inclusive and a very good selection. There was an ice cream machine in the restaurant that was sometimes available. Wine lovely in restaurant. Entertainment was pretty poor but you just had to laugh. There was a magician and a singer we saw but we don’t go for the evening entertainment. It looked liked there was entertainment for kids and a little disco. We like the area, it’s next to the golf course, however it’s a 15/20 min walk to Las Americas. Taxis vary from 5-10 euros. I would def go back! Ignore the bad reviews, it’s typical Spanish so not really what us Brits would class as a 4* but certainly a 3!
