Pleasant hotel but pool area too small

We got to the hotel late afternoon. Reception just needed one passport and we were in our room in about 10 minutes which was great. We were bed and breakfast but what we didn't know before we booked is that breakfast consisted mainly of hams and spams, bread and cerial. There was nothing hot to eat. I thought there might be eggs, bacon etc but nothing like that at all so we ate out for the whole week so cant really comment on the restraunt staff or food. The hotel is extremely close to the landing area of the airport and the plane noise is quite loud but it didn't bother us at all. The transfer from the airport took about 10 to 15 minutes. The meals at the pool bar were lovely though. Pizza was well cooked as were the hotdogs and hambergers. A little expensive I thought but tasty. Burger was 9 euros, Hot Dog 8 and pizza which was just enough for two was 12. Hotel draught beer was not bad, 'Aaa' I think it was called at 5 euros large beer and 4 euros a small beer. Spirits with a mixer was around 8 euros each. Our main gripe with the hotel was the pool area. It looked pleasant enough but was far too small for the amount of guests. We are usually up at around 8 and out by 9 but there was never any chance of getting a poolside sunbed. There just isn't enough space around the nice pool for everyone. We did manage to get one around 4 in the afternoon one day coming back from the beach and it was a nice pool to swim in. It was also clean and tidy. We are a couple who like to sit around the pool for a day or two on holiday as well as going to the beach so the fact that we didn't get a chance to was a little dissapointing. The beds were made and the room was cleaned every day. The room we had was quite small but functional. We had room 35 just behind the reception area which was handy but not much of a view to it. But I have to say the shower room was lovely with a lovely open shower lovely grey brick tiles around it and the towels were probably the thickest nicest towels I have ever experienced in a 3 star hotel. There was also a small fridge in the room but you had to ask for a kettle. We spent the whole week visiting the beach which was very stoney and lots of rocks and stones just inside the shore line which made getting in and swimming a difficult job at times. The promenade had plenty of restaraunts and eateries there and there was also a strip off of that which had the bars so plenty to do there if you wanted it. Overall Kamari is probably one of the few beaches in Santorini as the other side if the island is a cliff top with houses on the edge and no beach. The boat trip around Santorini was a lovely day out and a must for sightseers and highly recommended. There is also a Taverna called Dimitris just along from the hotel which did good meals and do a great 'Greek Night' every Friday for around 35 euros for a buffet meal and free beer and wine. It was well worth it with plate throwing at the end! Andreas was a great host and our thanks to him for showing us the rooms at the taverna incase we want to stay there another time. Overall we enjoyed our week at the Alexandra as a base but walking past the other hotels along the sea front we did wonder if we had made the right decision. Price wise we did as the price was very reasonable, so for a cheapish hotel to use as a base I suppose this one was ideal as when looking at prices for other hotels along the beach we realized how expensive some of the better hotels were. I would probably stay at this hotel again as a cheap base do other things from as it only cost us around 650 euros including Jet2 flights with on the beach. One small gripe though, it was hard to close the doors without slamming them which made it hard to be quiet coming back late. Other than that I would call this a fairly quiet hotel with a lovely large double bed and good sleep quality.

Beautiful hotel & great staff

What a beautiful experience! We stayed for 10 nights, the room has been recently renovated and decorated, the bed was very comfortable and housekeeping came over daily to give us fresh towels and tidy up. The hotel is only a short walk from Kamari beach and not far from the bus stop. It's got a great swimming pool and bar (which also serves food till late) for those who like a chill day at the hotel. Irini and Maria at reception, part of the family who own the place, were absolutely brilliant, very accommodating, friendly and always happy to help and give recommendations about the island. They even invited us a couple of times to have some dinner with the family! The bar team has been excellent as well, Christos and Dina during the day, and Christos in the evening, were very nice and made sure guests are having a great time around the pool! Thanks for you hospitality guys! We'll be back next time we are in Santorini and we'll highly recommend you to friends and family. Keep up the good job!
