Third Time is a Charm, mostly.
This was our third time visiting Hotel Coral Cotillo Beach. Our first time was in the winter of 2019. This was still at the time where the hotel was an alone standing hotel with no connection to the Coral chain. It had seen better times and was in need of some renovations. It did not take away from the location and the view of the ocean from the hotel, if you had a room in the front of the hotel. We did not, we had a room to the back of the hotel and it was still nice and quiet with a second floor balcony overlooking the pool. All in all, the hotel gave off a nice, friendly local family atmosphere. There were cats around the hotel and it had a nice local feeling. The entire staff from reception to the cleaning staff were extremely friendly and helpful. There was an additional bar where the entertainment would be hosted at night and also "Quiz Night" and other activities. We were there through Christmas and New Year and all the extra work that the staff put in for the season was nice. It is even more exciting to have winter festivities with a tropical vibe! The beach is a mere 2 or 3 minute walk. It's not overly busy and it still has a lot of the local feeling you usually lose in other locations. The only gripe I had was the food from the hotel. It was all in all average or below. It wasn't uneatable but I wasn't exactly excited every morning, lunch or night. The inability to keep food warm is an issue. All in all, it is VERY hit and miss. And the WiFi was free but only for one or two devices and the connection was terrible, but we are on an island, so yeah. Despite the food, we decided to come back only six months later for our summer vacation 2019. All in all, everything was the same, just a big more busy. It didn't stop the entire staff from being great!!! Everything was the same good and the food was the same not good. Our room was between the second restaurant/bar and the kitchen of the main dining area, so it wasn't so quiet. But we were on the second floor with a balcony overlooking the pool. During this time though, the hotel was taken over by the Coral chain and there were immediate changes. The staff were given goofy khaki uniforms that didn't make any sense. I thought we were about to be taken on a safari. The cats were all evicted from the premises, which was sad. The positive was, there was a general change to their food. All of a sudden, it was warm, it was cooked better, it tasted better and there was a lot more thought put into the food. It was great! This excited us. We had planned on coming again to see what else would happen with the hotel. We were expecting that there would be renovations, etc. Unfortunately, we all know what happened, the pandemic. Now, 2023 comes, winter is here, where do we go? We decide to got back to Cotillo Beach and see what has happened with the hotel. First, COMPLETELY renovated! It looks very nice. A lot of thought, time and money was put into the renovation. The lobby looks nice and up to date. The Pool area now as an outdoor bar. The rooms are up to date and look nice. The shower has so much water pressure it's almost ridiculous. My back loved the brand new mattress!!! The second bar and restaurant "Solar" and "Rooftop" were closed. I don't think there were enough people there to justify opening it or maybe something else? The main dining area was been completely remodeled. It looks nice and rustic. Still kind or reminds me of a McCafe or fast food restaurant but it was miles better than before. They also got rid of their Boy Scout uniforms and have simple uniforms. They have a small and nice looking gym. The ENTIRE outdoor sports area is new and it is pretty great especially compared to what used to be there. Could use a Basketball hoop though. The beach view is all but gone now. All the empty area that was in front of the hotel are being turned into time shares and holiday apartments. It's kind of disappointing what is happening in El Cotillo. I hope the hotel will get some compensation since their ocean view is dead now! We once again had a room to the back of the hotel on the second floor with a balcony overseeing the pool. Nice spot to the right. The pool is heated and nice as always. To the food. It was back to being mostly bad. I mean, come on. They couldn't even get the fries crispy. The food is either lukewarm or cold. It was mostly boring and uninspired. It wasn't all terrible but when you are there for 15 days, I was tired of it. The salad and such are fresh. There are some good sauces and dips. Some of the main food was good. I love tacos and wraps, so I was covered. The pizza was premade, freezer trash. They just put their own toppings on it. Same goes for the deserts. All premade junk. Breakfast was basic as it gets. No variety in bread. Just bland and boring. Lots of food recycling, which isn't a bad thing, if it actually tastes good. I am just so disappointed in how not good the food was. I am not a picky eater, but the food is just frustrating. Oh and we ordered cocktails for 14,00 and not to be dramatic, but they were the worst cocktails we have ever had. Both were heartburn educing ice cold lemon waters. (An alcohol free Strawberry Daiquiri and a Margarita that would make Jimmy Buffet turn over in his grave.) After a few sips, I took them back and politely told them that they were just not good cocktails. The bartender was a little surprised but gave us our money back. The entire staff is still friendly, but everyone just seems to be going through the motions. It just doesn't seem as lively as it used to be. I bet that has more to do to management than anything, judging from personal experience. The WiFi was still free, weak, it's amazing in the lobby, but we are still on an Island. All in all, the work that has been put into the hotel has paid off. It's nice looking and comfortable as ever. Everything is nice. Shame about the loss of the ocean video. And please for the love of Gordan Ramsey, throw your culinary routine out and start from scratch! The food really hurts the rest of the nice experience! As of right now, knowing how not good the food is will make me think twice about coming to the Hotel Coral Beach. Oh yeah, they have one black cat that hangs out in the pool area!

Make sure you contact the head office and confirm your booking before travelling
I have been to this hotel before and liked it. I booked this hotel again in September to travel on 11th November.I paid in September and received confirmation of the booking and duly arrived at the hotel with another couple who are friends of ours about 7pm. Our friends received their room keys and we were told that we weren’t going to be staying at this hotel and we were being moved to an apartment block in the town. I protested and was told that they were overbooked and I had been contacted and agreed to be moved! I told the receptionist that this was a complete lie to which she agreed but told me there was nothing she could do and to return at 7.00 am the next morning. We were left to drag our suitcases into the town to try and find the apartment block where our key was in a box on the wall. The place looked deserted. It wasn’t good. I returned as requested at 7am to be told to return at 9 to then be told return at 12 at which point I was told that there was nothing they could do as the management work from Tenerife and don’t work weekends and to come back Monday. I returned on Monday and was told I could have a room after 12pm. On returning home I obviously complained as the holiday had been ruined, to be told that it was a “computer glitch” and has happened to others. I was offered a voucher for 10% offa holiday before May, although when I looked on the website Black Friday was offering 30% off. Basically, I was told that even though I had paid extra for a pool view room in a top hotel and was stuck in a substandard apartment it was “bad luck” and I wasn’t getting any compensation. So, I would advise anyone who has booked this hotel that there’s “no guarantee” that you will be staying there and if you find yourself in this situation you can kiss goodbye to your money. I would recommend that if you’ve got a booking to ring the main offices in Tenerife to confirm that you are actually staying at the hotel, but don’t ring at a weekend as there will be nobody available.
Small and beautiful
Monica is a star! She runs a great small hotel which is well maintained and is a perfect place to start exploring the west coast of Fuerte. Monica is very helpful and her recommendations are special! Off the beaten track! We have already booked again!
Lovely clean and friendly
Really nice hotel. Very clean and friendly. Ideal for a totally relaxing stay. Not a great deal of ‘activities’ nearby which actually suited us as we wanted total chill holiday. Plenty of lovely restaurants locally down by harbour and slipway and also in other direction towards the beach (Lei’s Beach Bar especially).
