Underbart hotell

Greek Island luxury

Excellent facilities, clean spacious rooms, infinity pool, all situated on the beach just feet from the sea. The staff are courteous, professional and are truly wonderful people. The restaurant and poolside bar have a great selection of food and drink, service is the best, nothing is too much trouble. I would deeply recommend this hotel, can't wait for my next visit.

Fabulous

Arriving at this hotel was paradise after the horrendous start we had to our holiday (missed our flight) It is directly onto the beach, however unfortunately it wasn’t as pristine as it could of been due to the storms and high winds that brought all the seaweed onto the beach. Couldn’t be helped. The hotel pool (if a little chilly) was fab, cooling off on the side looking out to sea, what more do you need. The hotel breakfasts were a typical selection, omelettes, Greek bacon, scrambled eggs. Fruit, nuts, cold meats, a large selection of cakes and breads. The hotel staff are a credit to this hotel to name a couple Melina, Anna and Eirini? the pool guy (didn’t get his name)who sorted fresh towels and water every day. And the evening bar man who makes a mean lumumba!! The couple of issues we had in the room were sorted within 15 minutes of reporting them. We were so well looked after by every member of staff. The sun beds and the beds in the room are probably the most comfortable I have ever experienced on holiday. I like the idea of deciding when you want clean towels and bedding, you don’t need them every day tbf. Even the pool towels we often took them back to the room to use in the jacuzzi. There’s not a lot outside of the hotel due to it being early season so we would maybe go a bit later next time, yes there will be a next time this place is an amazing small gem of a hotel with fantastic staff!!! Thank you everybody!!

Good hotel, a few niggles.

This hotel gets many things right . The rooms are very comfortable (great beds and quality bedding) , calming white decor. The water is salty which is a shock at first, but you get used to it. Coffee machines in the superior rooms are a nice touch, kettle and tea bags. The tea bag selection is limited however, and herbal tea bags are in short supply. The fridge is okay but as usual with hotel fridges, not cold enough. The rooms are throughly cleaned each day. Selection at breakfast is good but somehow a bit lacking in flavour. The greek yoghurt is served in small pots and is pretty tasteless. Lots of little pots of things but it's often difficult to tell what things are and very fiddly as having TO open and close them each time is a pain . The selection of cheese was very limited too. The hotel is right on the beach, but the sand is very dark and gritty and gets into everything. There is a tap outside the entrance to wash your feet, but we still found it stuck to everything and made a mess of the room. The sea is quite rough and full of seaweed and there is quite a lot of detritus around. No one seems to pick up their litter which is disappointing. A member of staff does goes out and clean up first thing in the morning but we still found ourselves picking up plastic and rubbish every day. The selection of tavernas isn't very inspiring. The best of them was Pisiris which is next to the sea , just a few minutes from the hotel if you turn left out of the entrance on the beach. It is family run and very reasonably priced. The special is 30 euros with a half carafe of wine! The fish is very fresh and caught by the owner each day . Amazing value and the family are just so lovely and welcoming. We had a terrible meal at El Posto, and a pretty indifferent one at Nicholas. The Rock and Blues cafe on the right as you walk out of the hotel on the beach is a lovely place to sit but quite American in its theme. The hotel food is good but quite pricey and portions are small. Wine is expensive at 22 euros for the cheapest bottle. We felt we needed to get out of the hotel in the evenings, and the restaurant was very quiet generally at night. One thing that drove us mad was the endless loop of cover versions, and bland techno type music which played all day long from early to last thing at night. I cannot understand why silence and the sound of the sea isn't enough , or something more calming would be preferable. It is the same songs every single day, and made us want to get out and get away. The hotel provide bottles of water on ice throughout the day, which I can understand the need for as there is no drinking water at the hotel. However, the plastic waste was worrying. If we got up to go for lunch, they would be whipped away, along with pool towels. So the amount of pool towels that need washing daily is not environmentally friendly, neither is the use of plastic. Surely the hotel can invest in a water purifier and offer a dispenser or something which doesn't necessitate using thousands of plastic bottles daily which presumably go into landfill. They also give a large bottle of water daily in the room for making tea and coffee etc. We appreciated that, but again, the plastic waste! There must be better solutions. In this day and age the use of plastic should be an absolute last resort. No one needs more than one pool towel a day either. Despite saying to the pool attendant that we would be back later after lunch, the pool towels were removed and we needed fresh ones on our return. All in all the hotel tries very hard, but personally we found there wasn't enough to do in the area without taking local buses, which can be unreliable . We went to the port area for example on the bus, but once there was was really nothing to do and the tavernas weren't great. A trip to the island of Telendos is worth doing. Get a taxi which is about 7 or 8 euros and then the boat which takes ten minutes for 3 euros each. It is a beautiful island and very peaceful , with a few tavernas. Best of all, no awful music! Hiring a car is a bit scary as there are so many people speeding on mopeds everywhere, so we mostly stuck to the hotel, maybe a mistake. It was quite limiting as there isn't much to do or see in the local area without taking taxis or local buses. The beach at the hotel isn't the most attractive either. The member of staff who really stood out was Melina in the restaurant. She is an absolute star. Works so hard, always cheerful and friendly, so helpful. Katrine at reception was also very nice and seemed to be everywhere at once, working tirelessly . To sum up, the hotel offers a lot and tries very hard, but there are some minor niggles.
