Portugal meets Spain in 1920s elegance

More than met the hype, we had been looking forard to for over a year. This was our first visit to this part of Portugal. Note we went out of season so the place was quiet (eg easy to get seated in the small but delightlful bar).The Grand House has interesting history back to early 20th century and a recent refurb has scrubbed the place up nicely. Its a "boutique" hotel so... all rooms are different and there are no fitted cupboards to store all your clothes so a bit quirky but did not bother us. The rooms work: good showers and so on. Breakfast was splendid with waiter service ( recommend the eggs benedict).Hotel has a "beach cub" down the road and will happly drive you there. Again highly recommend: Vasco (?) is the master at cocktails and the sea food is excellent. Definitley spend 2 euro on the boat trip acorss to Spain where Huelva has many excellent tapas bars and streets to explore. Did I mention the bar? Its 100 years old and a lovely place to spend the evening. Bogdan will make you a great gin and tonic.

Beautiful hotel BUT please don’t keep caged live birds. Very depressing to see

Beautiful hotel. Great rooms. Amazing pillows. Lovely staff. Highly recommend. BUT please don’t have caged birds. It’s so depressing to see these beautiful birds kept in small cages. So sad every morning to wake downstairs and see them there. No one needs to keep birds caged in this day and age

Charming excellent hotel

Charming hotel in a beautiful old house with a view on the river. Awesome and helpful staff. Great old interior, beautiful bar. The beach club as well is very very enjoyable with great food and drinks. Infinity pool and everything you need. Very recommended

We just love it, a travel in time, flavors and experiences.

Far above our already high expectations.... The Grand House Algarve is delivering above the stars over and over again. The first time I saw this beautiful building of the Grand House it was almost a "ruin", and I fell in love with it. Wishing someone would bring it back to life and to its glorious days. I just love how they have taken care of everything with so much love and beauty. Me and my now husband stayded here for our first year anniversay of when we got together. We planned our wedding that weekend...then came many more celibrations and now we went there the other day again... it always feels like comming home, and the food is always a delicius journey of flavours, texturs, love and suprises. Last night we celebrated our first year as a married couple. I do have to say that the food was DELICIOUS. As before they made my whole 5 course menu considering all my food restrictions. We are fortunate to have you just around the corner.

Stayed for 4 nights food and service excellent would highly recommended for a relaxing break The tasting menu was lovely The buildings has charm and character from the 1920s Beech club is well worth a visit views are stunning off the entrance to the river
