Property is in pristine order, breakfast is a must and the staff go out of their way to make you feel at home. The property is split in two locations, one main building in the center of town facing the marina and the Grand beach club on the water for pool sun beds and a small beach. Only downside is that the pool is not heated so very cold at this time of year.
Ain’t it Grand - It sure is.
This quietly elegant hotel provides an excellent haven for totally unwinding. The historic nature of the building has been maintained beautifully by the choice of decor and attention to detail. The hotel is ideally situated across from the Marina and with easy access to the ferry to Ayamonte as well as to the square which has numerous restaurants and shops. Marita and her team were efficient and friendly and we appreciated the personal touch of welcoming us by name on arrival. Loved the wifi password and other little amusing comment on the menu at the beach club. If in the area a perfect place to stay.
Top class warmth, service and welcome
We have returned from a pre-Easter break at this wonderful hotel, as a family of four with two teenagers. Everything about our stay was faultless, from the smile of welcome to the detail of each encounter. We took two rooms (smallest and largest; incl breakfast) for eight nights. We ate in-house for a couple of dinners; at the table but also informally in one of the sitting/games rooms; and we lunched a couple of times st the ‘Beach Club’ a 10 minute slow walk or short complimentary shuttle ride away. The quality of both restaurants is impeccable, with international style cuisine with a Portuguese bent, but with a local and warm welcome. This is a five star hotel wrapped as a weekend with friends. The wine list is international quality but Portuguese sourced, and a complete standout attraction is Vasco, the senior barman and cocktail mixologist, who is a master of his art. it was a pleasure to listen, learn, and watch, even before the tasting of such fine cocktails, as a prelude to dinner, or after dinner experience. In truth, off-season, there is very little to do in Villa Real, which is nonetheless a great base for the eastern Algarve, and access to the beach, the orange groves on the way to Tevira, and the wetlands, or a short trip to Ayamonte (across the river to Spain). The staff of the Grand House Hotel, and the impeccable refurbishment of the building, make this a very lovely week’s stay, not a budget trip but a very good value one. Thank you to all for a great family holiday.
This is hotel is perfect. Beautiful, tasteful, faultless service. Detail is everything here. The location is wonderful and the staff are so pleasant and helpful. It's a gem. Food and service in restaurant is terrific.
Wonderful stay in this atmospheric hotel
We spent two nights at this beautiful hotel. It felt very intimate and cosy and the luxury was understated and beautifully rendered. The house has been beautifully renovated and has strong colonial, Art Deco, vibes, it almost feels as if you’re on another continent. Much thought has gone into curating the public spaces, there are even calming birds in one of the salons, a first for us. We had a room with a view over the river and a small balcony. There were lovely touches everywhere and these carried through to the experience at breakfast and dinner, which we enjoyed a lot. We also spent a beautiful day at the beach club, where no request was too much and the personnel was attentive and assisted us at all times. It’s a lovely place to unwind, it looks exclusive but it feels very homey and cosy , a lot like the hotel. We encountered a team who are doing an excellent job at making you feel at home, who are attentive to any needs, who made us feel special although we were first time guests and only had a short stay. I believe it’s the people that make the hospitality industry and a beautiful hotel is only as good as it’s personnel. We left with lots of tips for our trip in Portugal and hope we can return and be spoiled by the wonderful team at Grand House.
