Lyxigt men trist

Vi fick erbjudandet att prova detta nya hotell i tre nätter, vi bodde på Laguna Resort i Khao Lak, men då det var överbokat så tillfrågades vi vid incheckningen om vi ville testa detta i tre nätter och i gengäld få All inclusive. Vi tyckte det såg fint ut, och kul att testa något helt nytt! Och visst var det fint och fräscht! Vi bodde i en Honeymoon villa, med Jacuzzi och Queensize-säng. Stor fin balkong, stort badrum, absolut inget fel på rummen. Men...det var nog det enda som var bra. Hotellet ligger långt ifrån shopping, restauranger och andra hotell. Att åka in till Khao Lak kostade 1200 bath(tur/retur) med taxi. Det var inget problem att få tag på taxi, och de erbjöd sig att vänta tills vi ville tillbaka. Det visade sig också att det var långtifrån klart, enligt hemsidan ska där finnas en bar vid stranden, men den var inte klar. Maskiner/kylar stod inplastade. Dock så ordnade killarna nere på stranden drycker från restaurangen om man önskade. Det var fint nere vid stranden, men inte direkt badvänligt. Ville man bada så var det den enormt stora poolen som gällde, och det var inte klart där heller, fanns inga stegar att gå ner/upp på, endast trappor på ena kortsidan. Vi var inte många gäster på hotellet, kanske 15-20 rum som var uthyrda. Frukosten var bra,fräscht och mycket att välja på. Dock så tog det tid om man ville ha stekta ägg eller omelett, det blev snabbt kö där, trots fåtalet gäster. Vi åt lunch två ggr på hotellet, väntetiden på maten var över en timme, trots att det kanske bara var 4-5 bord med matgäster. Väntetiden var över en timme vid båda tillfällena. Man undrar hur det ska bli när hotellet är fullbelagt? Vi var som sagt lovade All inclusive, och det funkade första dygnet. Andra dagen efter lunch så ändrades plötsligt reglerna och man kom med en ny meny, det var ett par rätter att välja på, och den enda alkoholhaltiga dryck som ingick var öl. Vi fick ingen förklaring till detta, och det var en riktig besvikelse! Maten var det dock inget fel på. Vid utcheckningen blev det en lång väntan, personalen skulle hämta våra väskor på rummet, men det hände ingenting! Till slut fick transferpersonalen hämta väskorna. Vi fick påminna om påfyllning i minibaren. Städningen var helt okej. Såg flera stora kackerlackor och det var ganska mycket mygg. Fanns ingenting att göra på hotellet, det var ganska trist, och dessutom långt avstånd till allt. Vid utcheckningen blev det en lång väntan, personalen skulle hämta våra väskor på rummet, men det hände ingenting! Till slut fick transferpersonalen hämta väskorna. Vill man enbart ha lugn och ro så kan nog detta hotell funka när det blir klart och personalen jobbat in sig. Men som det är idag så rekommenderar jag ingen att bo här, det finns så många andra fina hotell att välja på! Har hunnit på på många hotell i Thailand, och detta var ett bottennapp!

Overpriced during peak season

My husband, my brother in-law and myself spent our Christmas holiday there (5 nights), and we had the beachfront 2 bedroom pool villa. The villa looks ok and decent but definitely not a 5-star, and definitely not worth the price premium especially during peak season - - the bathroom had loads of ants (all over our toiletries no matter how many times we tried to clear them) - even when I asked housekeeping to get some ant baits they only wanted to spray pesticides (where we had all our toiletries..!). we ended up buying ant baits on our own as we couldn't stand it ... - service was bad i) mostly because the staff doesn't speak proper English (we appreciated that they hired locals and understand that their Eng might not be good, but given the price premium we expect excellent service and have at least the customer facing staff speaking proper English, understanding customer requests ii) for the same request - e.g. getting champagne glasses, mosquito repellent etc. - you need to call and repeat at least 2 - 3 times to get the right stuff you need - food was horrible - there's very limited choice of food and even the basic Thai local dishes were quite badly made; breakfast was worse, some of the fresh items e.g. fruits, salad were not properly covered in an open area with flies etc. (we ended up only having basic items e.g. toasts from breakfast and one dinner, one lunch there only as it was just so bad) - it's in a rather remote area, taking at least 20 - 30 mins back to the main town with restaurants etc. - there are 2 small stalls for lunch or dinner at the beach (and way better than the hotel) - the common swimming pool however, was nice - it's a huge pool and wasn't too crowded All in all, they are at most a 3-star resort so depends on your expectation, it could be fine if we were not being charged the price premium but with that I had way higher expectations.

Secret paradise - amazing hotel and lonely beach in North Khao Lak

Amazing hotel in one of the most beautiful beach areas of Khao Lak. Definitely a secret insider tip if you look for a lonely spot in paradise. The Hotel has direct beach access, the rooms are very large and nicely decorated and very clean. The whole beach area is excellently kept, no waste, no mass tourism, perfect choice for a relaxed holiday. In the evening you can enjoy cocktails at the beach bar and watch the Instagram-like sunset - one of the most gorgeous I’ve ever seen. Moreover it was great to see the hotel's efforts in supporting the community by hiring local staff. Sometimes communication in English could be a bit challenging, though, but in the end we always found a way and everyone was very friendly and eager to help. Another highlight was definitely the swimming pool located in the heart of the resort with a total range of 120m (!) and infinite sea view. We stayed 10 days and it was the perfect holiday. I would absolutely recommend the Le Menara and will come back again!

Resorts needs an overhaul

Whilst the staff were wonderful and friendly - hardly anyone spoke English , so be prepared for lots of Google translate moments . Not 1 person in 10 days who had bare minimum English . Even taxi drivers to and from resort spoke better English . I am multilingual and even I really struggled . The pool view villa was lovely and clean but ... The room service can come within 1-5 hours of being asked for . So you could be having a snooze and get a bell at 4 pm instead of 12 pm. The beach bar is there but no one offers drinks around the pool . The kids club is a concrete room with no air con or supervision . Zero kids activities organised and they could easily do- beach sports , volleyball , soccer , treasure shell hunts , crab races , arts and crafts , kids cooking classes , swim races and movie nights to suggest a few ;) Tv has many channels but only 1-2 in English . Nickelodeon and Disney in English would not go amiss ! Finally we missed out on watching the Australian Open - we barely watched 3-4 matches . Their Fox Sports only showed 30% of live matches . Our sons play tennis and we are huge fans and we felt very cheated . Given there was zero entertainment, not even music from speakers and a bar near the pool - at least we could have had TV to watch in the afternoons . So we opted for massages ( in their spa as well as in the nearby beach hut ) ; splashing in the pool ( which had very little shade but was huge and fun for kids ) ; beach walks and resting ;) Now onto the health and safety . 1. Pool has very slippery tiles and lots of sharp step edges; tiles aren’t cleaned much around edges either ( mould built up ) and spa only turned on upon request . No sealant on gravel - sharp rocks sticking out of the ground and very painful to step on . 2. No expansion joints and no sealant over concrete pathways and concrete was glossed in many areas - very slippery and dangerous . Can see all of the walk away washing away entirely within 12 months . 3. Plumbing is a huge problem - apparently you can’t even flush toilet paper or the toilet gets blocked . Flushes are super weak . 4. Steps everywhere . Felt sorry for families with prams and anyone with a wheelchair who might need ramp access . Steps literally everywhere and many step hazards - inthe room and on the patio - unnecessary small little steps and constant tripping . 5. Exposed electrical cables in the grass area waking from reception toward spa . 6. Wood already being termite ridden in all pool villas ( can’t comment on other rooms ) 7. Tile mould in all roofs and lots of tile damage on patios in the pool villas . Something black - ? Dirt ? Mould 8. Floor cleaning. Everything is swept daily . Not a single vacuum cleaner in the whole facility . Floors weren’t a mopped in the room once. There was no smell of disinfectant / bleach after bathroom cleaning anywhere . Restaurant was average - the buffet at dinner is poor cruise- quality at best . However a la carte menu was whilst limited - very good in quality . Breakfast was nice but again - very limited options - eggs , a few cereals , a few fruit n veg and juices with a nice variety of breads and pastries . The resort is at least a 35 min drive from even the closest market ( Takuapa or Bang Niang markets ) - very expensive taxis and the market prices have gone through the roof - buyer beware ;) Compared to JW Marriott in Khao Lak , where we also stayed 2.5 years ago via Luxury Excapes - JW was genuinely 5.5-6 stars and this resort would be 3.5 at most . Purely for the willingness of staff and their kindness . It used to be a fisherman’s village and suddenly completely untrained locals are expected to run and operate a facility with zero management . If after 12 months its failing - what will happen to it in another 12 with all monsoons almost daily ?

Beautiful villa Disappointing service

Whilst we initially had a great impression of the understated remote resort Out opinion quickly changed.. Our pool villa was spacious with a fabulous patio and sun terrace. The pool and the beach were also very nice. With plenty of beach towels provided. The restaurant and general service however was a disaster. The food was the same every night. At times it took up to half an hour for drinks to arrive. The majority of staff spoke no English and struggled to understand basic requests. Unfortunately the service was worse than any hotel we have ever experienced in Thailand. For the price this hotel represents poor value for money. It is not up to its 5* rating.
