Thomas Cook’s take on boutique…
I had no idea this revamped brand was part of the Thomas Cook portfolio of hotels, had I known this I probably wouldn’t have booked. The brands marketing is misleading to say the least. Let’s start with the positives - The setting for Cooks Club Corfu is beautiful. I payed a premium (£1200 for 6 nights) for a “bay view” room - whilst it only had a part view of said bay it was quite a panorama. Outside areas are well kept and the garden is very pretty - more on the pool area later. The entire hotel was spotlessly clean. Housekeeping in the rooms was great and the team responsible for this were friendly and professional. My room was exactly as I expected. The bed was huge, nicely dressed and very comfortable. Whilst we’re on the subject of rooms - I was travelling alone…but if you’re planning on visiting with a friend/partner and sharing a room you NEED to know this. The toilet is partitioned off with glass (it is etched but it’s still glass) and as the rooms are very compact there would be absolutely no privacy at all - it is no more than 6 feet from the bed. The gym is great - well equipped (it’s all brand new) and very nicely situated in the garden. Be warned - it’s a home for mosquitos, everyone that I spoke to whilst in there had been bitten a lot, including me. Moving on to what was so disappointing - The food was so incredibly basic, some of it so bad it was inedible, this is where the marketing is misleading. Both their website and Instagram uses words like “exceptional” and “one of a kind” to describe what’s on offer, this simply is not the case. The pool food offering is burgers/chips/basic sandwiches and the saddest salads - leaves, a tiny bit of vegetable (I couldn’t tell what vegetable it was) and a teaspoon of cheese. I was surprised to see there was no Greek food on the menu at the pool, except for a salad on one of the 6 days I was there. *See images* All food ordering is done on an app - for the evening meals too - this makes it way more cafe than fine dinning and very impersonal. As for the main Cantina Resturant, there were several evenings I went to bed hungry. I’ve never, ever (I’m 50) had such poor quality food - Lamb chops burnt to a crisp, with no lamb on them, tiny bits of chicken smothered in mayonnaise type sauce, slapped in pita bread, served with more chips. The Moussaka was revolting, sloppy with very little meat at all. Maybe this is just how all inclusive holiday food is, I don’t know this was my first (and my last) If food on holiday is important to you I urge you to check out the images included in this review and then check out the hotels website/Instagram. After speaking to the the GM (who was very professional) I dined at the a la carte Resturant, he kindly offered to arrange for me to eat there for the duration of my stay (one meal is included) The food was better and the service was lovely but it was trying way to hard and the fish dish I had was pretty revolting, as the sauce had been over thickened. I did speak with the food and beverage manager who said “the food does need some work”…I was lost for words. You’ll see in other reviews mentions of the music - The DJ’s were great but the music was simply too loud and a lot of the time to “housey” I emailed prior to booking and was told it was “Balearic” beats - it’s loud house music that’s impossible to get away from around the pool. Lastly, there’s a very strong smell of sewage in the lobby and as this is where people congregate in the evening (it’s a €35 taxi ride one way to Corfu town, there’s nothing surrounding the hotel) it’s very off putting - I’m guessing its guests not wanting to use the toilets in their rooms…?!? All in all an experience I want to forget about. The team may have listened (some of them, others seemed fed up) and been professional but the vibe at the hotel is generally lacklustre and with food like that I shall not be recommending it to anyone. A hotel that’s pretending to be something it isn’t.
Only her for one night - rather impressed
Friday the 9th September we unexpectedly spent the night at this Hotel, as all inclusive guests. As result of flight delays, from the UK, we missed our connecting ferry to Paxos and eventually the Holiday Company arranged for us and 4 other travellers to spend the night at the Hotel. Initially on hearing the name of the accommodation and seeing the entrance, we thought oh dear, this might not be too good. How wrong we were, it was absolutely top notch. On arrival at the Hotel and check-in we were advised to head straight to restaurant, Cantina, where we had a delicious meal and were so well looked after. When dinner was over we headed for our respective rooms. Our double room was spacious and immaculately clean. The bed linen was white, crisp and clean and we discovered later the bed was really comfortable. We all met up later for a few drinks in the vast and comfortable lobby bar. Everything about the Hotel was modern, big, so very clean with tasteful decor. We did take a stroll around the terraced area outside near the large pool area. We only stayed one night and it was a very good experience.
Excellent stay at Cooks Club, Corfu.
I am puzzled by many reviews that have been left. We had an excellent time - the hotel is brand new this season and the rooms were spotless and well designed. You can a safe included as well. The wifi works everywhere and I logged in once and that was it. I think people are picky if they expect bedding to be changed daily and its hardly good for the environment. The food was excellent - all freshly cooked, yes it means that some dishes are brought at different times, but who cares its far better than a buffet and means less waste. You get one evening meal included in the outside a la carte menu and that was also top quality. Drinks wise - loads of choice included in the all inclusive. Would say that they were not great at making coffee, the machine were not great either. The staff were helpful and friendly. We liked the vibe of music playing by the DJ and the evenings with a violinist was enjoyable. The location is a bit out of the way - but some walking around, definitely recommend Danilia Village and the walk to Govia church. Would definitely go back and also look at Cooks Club on the other greek islands.
STUNNING 5* HOTEL
My husband and I have just returned from a week’s stay in Cook’s Club. We can only praise the hotel. On arrival the drive in, the exterior of the hotel and the reception lobby are very impressive. Staff The staff are very hospitable, pleasant and helpful. The hotel has only been open for 5 months and we are sure they will take all comments on board and make whatever changes they feel necessary in the future. Rooms The rooms are beautifully appointed, very comfortable beds with top quality bedding. The bedding is changed regularly and the white fluffy towels are changed daily. The hairdryer is good. The toiletries are good quality, there is no separate hair conditioner. The patio furniture on the balcony is top quality. Bathroom We have experienced this type of open style bathroom in top hotels worldwide and also on a cruise ship. The glass is frosted glass which gives privacy. A suggestion I would make to the management is to provide a drop-down blind in the bedroom side which would offer more privacy. Again we have had this in other open style bathrooms and it works well, you have the choice to keep it up or lower it down. Dining Breakfast is self service buffet with all the usual continental and cooked breakfast foods. There is a separate egg station. Lunch can be in the dining room ordered through the App and delivered to your table or at the pool bar area, in this area you place the order and you are given an electronic device to take to your table or back to your sunbed, the device buzzes when your food is ready for collection, a good system, we have experienced this before on a cruise ship that offered open dining, the device was used to let you know your table was ready. Dinner is ordered through the App and delivered to your table. The quality of the food was very good but unfortunately the dishes are delivered to your table when they are ready which can mean one person having their meal up to 40 minutes before the other meal is served. If this could be remedied it would be a very good system. A La Carte An all-inclusive week includes one night to the a la carte. Make sure you do this, it is a lovely experience. The head waiter, George, is wonderful and will explain in detail what is available without incurring an extra charge. Fillet steak is included and was delicious. The a la carte restaurant is at the outside bar area, patio heaters are used if it’s cool. Drinks Drinks are very good, plenty of branded spirits available. There are only 3 cocktails included in the all-inclusive package but they are nice and suit most tastes. The coffees from the bar are very good, if you like your coffee hot ask for the cup to be heated beforehand! There is no cut-off time for the all inclusive drinks, drinks were available until you went to bed. Pool Area and Surroundings The pool area is stunning, I don’t think the photographs on the website do it justice. The sunbeds and all outside tables and chairs are top quality. Unfortunately lounger cushions are not provided because they do not want to spoil the appearance of the sunbeds but for me, in a 5 star hotel I expect the comfort of a lounger cushion. Pool towels are plentiful. Entertainment The DJ music playing at the pool area daytime and in the large social area in the evening is a bit “samey”. To appeal to all age groups, it would be nice to have some different entertainment in the evening. One evening after we had retired for the night, the DJ played some old familiar music and folks were dancing. Feedback the next day was very good. Maybe a quiz night or a Greek night, we had experienced a Greek night in Corfu 4 weeks prior to this holiday and it was great fun. Gym and exercise class decking area The gym is very well appointed in a stunning glass building. Outside is a decking area where the different fitness classes take place. Register for sound healing, first time I had heard of it and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Location Gouvia centre is 10-15 minutes walk away and Govino bay is 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The bus stop into Corfu Town is at the gate of the hotel, one way is €2.30 if you pay on the bus and €1.50 if you buy a ticket at the ticket machine. Season If going to Corfu or probably any island in Greece late in the season, take mosquito repellent with you. While we were there the days were very hot but the mornings and evenings cool, perfect for mosquitos and a lot of people had multiple mosquito bites. This is nothing to do with this hotel, at the airport it was obvious everyone had been bitten.
Perfect hotel with European hotel standards.
Beautifully designed hotel with European hospitality standards. Lots of caring and talented staff. Daily changing food menus catering for all dietary requirements. Delicious range of cocktails and drinks. No need for wristbands etc. Would highly recommend.
